The restaurant, under the direction of UNO's manager LaDonna Bach, was abuzz with the delighted sound of animal lovers discussing what had brought them there - animals! Stories were swapped, meals were ordered and consumed, laughter was shared AND HART received a donation of $347 for the Spay/Neuter Clinic!

The fundraiser was part of UNO Dough Rai$ers, a program which allows the chain to help nonprofits throughout the U.S. UNO's at Deep Creek kicked off the program and HART was the first charity to sign up. To benefit HART, guests had to show the ticket provided by UNO, whether dining at the restaurant or ordering take-out!

In accepting the check from LaDonna, HART president Mike Pellet thanked her profusely for their generosity - and for allowing HART's many friends to have a great dinner and a wonderful time!

The event is organized by the Humane Society of the United States. (It was started by animal activist and actress Doris Day in 1994.) HART supports the Humane Society of the U.S. in its commitment to decrease the number of animals euthanized due to overpopulation. In Maryland alone, 38,414 dogs entered county shelters and 10,447 were euthanized; 57,556 cats entered shelters and 34,660 were euthanized. This means that 28% of dogs and 61% of cats were euthanized.

This data was obtained thanks to the efforts of Nicky Ratliff, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Carroll County. In her report, Nicky stated the progress in our state: when Nicky began to keep records, the number of animals euthanized topped 100,000. We are making progress, Nicky! And that is why we all participate in the organized effort to stop the indiscriminate breeding of the animals we love and care for.

HART Received GuideStar's Exchange Seal!

HART recently received the coveted GuideStar Exchange Seal, which means that we have demonstrated a commitment to transparency.
