John Kerry
On the day that the real John Kerry lost the election, a beagle mix was abandoned on the highway close to the polls. As voters rushed in to cast their votes, the lonely beagle rushed from one person to another, seeking comfort. Some people brushed by, shaking off the imaginary hairs that the dog left on them and others patted him on the head, saying "Nice doggy" and kept moving.
A couple saw him and felt that the dog was in danger because, at any moment, a speeding car could hit him on the road. They put a temporary leash on the dog and went door to door, asking people if the dog belonged to them. When it became clear that the dog did not belong to the area where he was found, the couple took him home to take care of his foot pads, which were rubbed raw. After phone calls to local shelters, it became clear that nobody was looking for the little beagle!
The dog's friendly disposition made the couple reluctant to take him to the shelter. They took him to the vet and he became the third dog in the family. By that time, John Kerry had lost the election and the couple decided to name him John Kerry so that at least ONE John Kerry could be said to have won on election day!
