Happy Endings

Sammi

In mid-fall 2007, the Garrett County Animal Shelter received a 6 month old male unneutered Cocker Spaniel pup. Unfortunately, he was relinquished as untrainable and, as a result, sat in the shelter for a few days, looking scared whenever anyone approached him. He was a healthy-looking purebred Cocker Spaniel, but all that was visible to the shelter staff was that he was very shy and apprehensive. HART's Rescue Coordinator was struck by the dog's beauty and his young age so she decided to contact a wonderful Cocker Spaniel Rescue group in Maryland, who has helped HART so many times and has found wonderful homes for its dogs in the past. They have foster homes where they can assess a dog and see what issues he or she may have, so they can find the right home situation.

The HART Rescue Coordinator arranged transport to the Cocker Rescue's adoption coordinator, who took him home and fostered him. She said he was very shy at first but soon came out of his shell. Initially, he cowered at the word "no" but soon started to react normally and adjusted to his foster home. In time, he was ready for adoption!

After Sammi was adopted, the Cocker Rescue's Adoption Coordinator - and foster mom - sent HART the following message:

"I just wanted to let you know that little Sammi got adopted yesterday! What a sweetheart he was! It was hard for me to let him go, but this family is just the best for him. They have an acre fenced-in backyard and the husband works from home so he will rarely be left alone. Also, they have a 10 year old daughter that they adopted from the Ukraine last year. Ironically, yesterday was her one year adoption anniversary! She was very excited that she and Sammi would share the same adoption birthday! When I left them, she was playing with Sammi in the backyard.

Thanks so much for helping Sammi find his way to a wonderful, loving home!
