Socializing Your Pet
Hello, New World
Socialization is one of the most important things you can do for your new puppy, as well as yourself! The first few months of your puppy’s life are critical to his social development. An unsocialized animal can become confused, scared, and defensive in unfamiliar situations. Exposing your puppy to people and other animals is the best way to help him or her to become a fun, lovable and mild-mannered companion.
Making Friends
Surprised to hear that your dog has to have friends? In order for your puppy to mature into a nice, well-rounded adult, s/he needs to meet people and, most importantly, learn how to act around people. How can you do this? There are lots of ways for you and your pup to make new friends.
- Take your pup everywhere you go.Invite friends, relatives, and their pets to come to your home to play with your puppy.
- Meeting other dogs is very important as well. As soon as your pet is vaccinated, go for frequent walks and visit your local dog park.
- Visiting your veterinary office frequently is perfect. There’s no better place to find people and other dogs to meet! And it’ll make your puppy less nervous about going to the vet.
- To make new introductions special, be sure to reward your puppy with a treat each time s/he meets someone new.
Remember: Pets learn what they live.
