The Snyder Foundation for Animals

In 2013, HART took over the BIG FIX program administered by Partners for Animal Welfare and Safety, Inc. (PAWS). The PAWS program ran for eight years and had a great impact on the number of animals spayed and neutered in Garrett County, thanks in part to a grant from The Snyder Foundation for Animals.

The Snyder Foundation for Animals is a private nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals through education and philanthropic support.

In order to fund its various charitable programs, HART has established many relationships with charitable organizations, in Maryland as well as in other states. Snyder is one of the most efficient and effective we have worked with in pursuit of our common goal of helping animals. Thanks to a grant from the Snyder Foundation, HART has been able to provide spay/neuter assistance to nearly 1,000 pet owners in Maryland.

HART changed the name (BIG FIX) to HARThelp and supplemented the grant from the Snyder Foundation with funds raised through the Have a HART Guest Bartender events and private donations. In 2016, HART was able to perform 194 low-cost surgeries at the Bredel Veterinary Clinic. Since it opened its low-cost spay/neuter clinic in 2009, HART has performed a total of 5,995 surgeries.

Low-cost spay/neuter surgeries will continue at the Bredel Veterinary Clinic under the direction of Dr. Jessy Vandevender.

In 2012, for the first time since statistics became available at the county shelter, the number of animals arriving at the shelter decreased by 18%. This significant decrease is due in great part to the combined efforts of PAWS and the HART spay/neuter clinic, with the continued support of The Snyder Foundation for Animals and fundraising in our community through the “HAVE A HART” Guest Bartender events.

Low-cost spay/neuter is available to pet owners who love their pets but cannot afford standard veterinary fees. Our program is called HARThelp. Pet owners need to fill out an application and qualify financially.
