Since 2003, HART has been the leader in our region for providing low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to to our local residents. We do this because our founders created HART as a reaction to the fact that so many animals had to be euthanized every year. These animals were healthy, adoptable animals. Unfortunately, there were no resources to take care of them: to feed them, to house them, to pay the staff to care for them. The Garrett County Shelter tried but it costs a lot of money in staff, food, medications, space to care for animals.
Our founders created HART with the express purpose of saving lives. This involves a lot of work and many people working together to make it happen.
Reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs is just one part of HART's mission to improve the conditions of animals in Western Maryland and the region. HART offers a low-cost program with funding provided by the The Snyder Foundation for Animals and the 'HAVE A HART' guest bartender fundraisers.
